For those anticipating to watch Kobe Paras in the UAAP, sad to say but the young cager might not be enrolling in any of the universities here in the Philippines after high school.
A member of the La Salle Greenies, basketball (and showbiz) fans are almost sure the 16-year-old will continue being a La Sallite and eventually join the the Green Archers come college.
Opportunities, however, should be grabbed and not taken for granted, like what Kobe did when he was offered a basketball scholarship at Cathedral High in Los Angeles, California.
Fact is, he has already left for the US. According to reports, San Mig Coffee forward Joe Devance helped with Kobe’s school transfer. The Fil-Am player has connection to the coach of Cathedral High.
Meanwhile, according to Kobe’s dad, Got To Believe actor and two-time PBA MVP Benjie Paras, the teen might have to go back to second year high school because of the difference in curriculum in the US.
“The hitch is that, I think, he’s going back to second year since they have a different high school program there,” Benjie said, as quoted by abs-cbnnews.com.
Kobe has made quite a buzz in the basketball world earlier this year. He dunked on LeBron James when the NBA player visited the country, then he won the FIBA World Under-18 dunk contest in Jakarta last September.
It’s good to know that despite being not in good terms with his mom, Jackie Forster, things are going great when it comes to Kobe’s basketball career.
His girl fans, however, may be sad that he left because while the US gained a talented basketball player, Philippine showbiz lost a cute face.
But hey, his dad said he will be coming home during school breaks, and with his current contract with Viva, I’m sure he will be made to do little projects during those vacations.
