Kris Aquino cried Tuesday night while thanking former husband James Yap in ABS-CBN's Aquino & Abunda Tonight.
"I want to say thank you to you dahil hindi ka rin naman sumuko. Ang ibang mga lalaki pwedeng-pwedeng sumuko na at sabihing bahala na kayo sa buhay n'yo dahil ayoko na ng gulo, pero hindi ka rin bumitaw kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa 'yo," Aquino told the father of her son, Bimby, who had an advanced 7th birthday celebration on April 8. The venue of the party was where the interview with Yap was taken.
But it was talking about her older son, Joshua, with actor Phillip Salvador that Aquino became emotional. She couldn't hold back her tears upon recalling how James loved him as his own.
"Aamin ako ha, I also kept a few pictures," Kris said, breaking down. "Ang liit pa ni Josh nung una kang pumasok sa buhay namin."
She said James and his family had been good to Joshua considering he's not related to them by blood, and those are the things that she now realizes she should be thankful for.
"You stepped up for Josh din naman. Na hindi naging madali pero naging mabuti ka as a someone na hindi mo naman kadugo. And then never mo s'yang trinatong iba sa 'yo. Pati 'yung family mo, they were always good to my son and those are the things na nare-realize ko ngayon. Gusto ko lang paabot kasi parang for so long puro galit lang, nakalimutan ko kung ano dapat 'yung mga ipagpasalamat ko," the actress-TV host said.
She then looked back to the time when Yap first came into her life and met Josh who was then only 9 years old.
"Looking back, 'di ba parang nine years of our lives naman ito. From the time we met to everything parang it's been nine years and kung tutuusin, 'di ba nine years old si Josh nung nakilala mo s'ya and sobrang naa-appreciate ko na you also opened up your heart to him. And I think also with my family, appreciative sila do'n," Aquino continued.
Yap loved Joshua, and that's what she points out to Bimby as the reason why the kid should also love his dad.
"'Yun 'yung pino-point out ko kay Bimb na, 'He was able to love your kuya, Bimb, so maybe because we love kuya and he loved kuya, we should also, you should also love him,'" she said.
Aquino then apologized to her former husband for all the heartaches she caused him.
"I'm very sorry, James, sa lahat din ng heartache na binigay ko," she said, getting collective gasps from those present.
Yap, in turn, also said sorry to his former wife, for not being a perfect partner to her.
"Sorry din, sorry din sa 'yo na kung hindi man ako naging perfect na partner mo, thank you sa 'yo dahil natanggap mo pa rin ako ngayon na okay na tayo. So thank you. Love, love, love!" he said.
