Beyonce was given tribute to by ASAP 19 on Sunday, January 5. Three of the country’s young singers did her songs and what outstanding performances most of them delivered.
The production number started with Angeline Quinto singing the much-loved Listen, a piece that perhaps any aspiring female singer in the Philippines know. While we have somehow learned to accept her diction as time goes by, I can’t help but remember her rendition of And I Am Telling You while watching her do the Beyonce song.
Next was The Voice of the Philippines runner-up Klarisse de Guzman who did a rendition of Halo. What’s to be loved about her is the control she has over her voice. She knows how and when to use the vocal techniques that easily make her at par with the pros.
Morrisette Amon, who, just like Klarisse, was part of Sarah Geronimo’s team in The Voice PH, did the hard to sing Best Thing I Never Had, and she was a revelation when she whistled at the end of her solo part. That was superb, they should put her in a number with Lani Misalucha and Nina so we can compare who whistles best.
