Sarangani was hit by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake on Saturday afternoon, February 16, 2013.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at exactly 12:37:38 PM. The epicenter was traced 46 kilometers (km) northeast of Sarangani (Davao del Sur).
The tremblor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 85 km.
It was also felt in the following areas:
Intensity IV - Mati and Taragona, Davao Oriental; General Santos City; Digos City; Sulop, Malalag, Sta. Maria, Davao del Sur
Intensity III - Davao City
Intensity II - Valencia City, Bukidnon; President Roxas, North Cotabato; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, Cotabato; Butuan City
Intensity I - Cagayan de Oro City; Malaybalay, Bukidnon
Two aftershocks have already been recorded - a magnitude 3.9 quake in Hinatuan (Surigao del Sur) at 1.44 PM; and a magnitude 3.4 quake also in Sarangani at 2:17 PM.
According to the Phivolcs bulletin, no damage is expected from the quake.
