ABS-CBN officially announced Lea Salonga as one of the four coaches in the upcoming reality singing show The Voice of the Philippines.
Lea was the third one to be officially announced, after Sarah Geronimo and Bamboo MaƱalac. She, however, has already Twitted about it even before the Kapamilya Network revealed her identity.
“What you’ll get from me as a coach is honesty,” she said in the teaser video, then jokingly added, “beside the Tony Award and thirty-five years of experience.”
Lea was dubbed as the ‘Broadway Diva’ in the teaser. Known for her crystal clear voice, she was the original Kim in both the West End and Broadway productions of Miss Saigon. She has also played the parts of both Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables and has voiced two Disney princesses - Jasmine (Aladdin) and Mulan (Mulan).
Meanwhile, The Voice of the Philippines will be hosted by Toni Gonzaga, with Robi Domingo as the backstage online and social media correspondent.
ABS-CBN is currently holding auditions across the country. The chosen ones will participate in the blind audition where the judges/coaches won’t be able to see them so they will be judged based on singing voice alone.
