Karen Davila checks situation of people with disabilities in “Krusada” (July 26)

Broadcast journalist Karen Davila will assess the present condition of Filipino persons with disabilities (PWD) in terms of social acceptance, well-being, and economic opportunities this Thursday (July 26) in “Krusada.”

Karen will work together with Vera Files to evaluate if PWD-related ordinances have been successfully implemented to foster over 500,000 Filipino PWDs as productive citizens of the country in a report that will commemorate the conclusion of the Philippine Decade of Persons with Disabilities this year.

“Many laws have been passed to nurture PWDs but have we kept our promise to protect their rights and enrich their skills?” asked Karen.

It was only in 2006 when a strict definition of persons with disabilities was specified in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which also echoed every state’s obligation to accept, care for, and promote and enhance the rights of PWDs.

Have PWDs been treated fairly? Have their educational and livelihood needs been properly provided by the government?

Because it takes more than words to take a stand, watch “Krusada” with Karen this Thursday (July 26) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN or watch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m.
