ABS-CBN in full support of Noli De Castro regarding PNoy’s speech at “TV Patrol” anniversary

Noli De Castro has the full support of ABS-CBN with regards to the controversial speech made by President Benigno Aquino III during the 25th anniversary celebration of the network’s flagship news program TV Patrol.

According to the statement released by ABS-CBN News Chief Ging Reyes, their journalists and anchors, including De Castro, “report the news as they see it.” Reyes further said that their credibility and journalistic principles rest on the editorial independence they give their journalists.

Our journalists and anchors, including Noli de Castro, report the news as they see it. They enjoy editorial independence in their coverage, and in the way they tell stories. The credibility of our news organization rests on this, as well as other basic journalistic principles.

In instances in which our fairness or balance is questioned, we have internal mechanisms that address such complaints from viewers.

During the news program’s anniversary celebration on July 27 at the Fiesta Pavilion of Manila Hotel, the Philippine president bashed De Castro for a comment made sometime last October.

Aquino recalled how one anchor bashed NAIA Terminal 1 after a field correspondent reported a good news about Terminal 3. Although he didn’t name drop, the clues given in his speech all pointed to the senior news anchor.

Aquino said in his speech:

It didn’t leave anyone wild guessing for long because the president gave clues to the identity of the anchor he was referring to. According to him, that same anchor was given a six-year chance to help renovate that same building he was complaining about.

Noli De Castro, meanwhile, has not yet commented on the matter.
