Kris Aquino says PNoy has right to defend himself and express his opinion

Kris Aquino has commented on President Benigno Aquino III’s bashing of news anchor Noli De Castro during a speech he delivered at the 25th anniversary celebration of TV Patrol.

The actress-TV host said her piece over the micro-blogging site Twitter as replies to another Twitter user who commented on the matter.

According to the Queen of All Media, her brother has the right to express his opinion because we have freedom to do so.

“has the right to defend himself & express his opinion? Freedom of speech is a 2 way street right?”

During the news program’s anniversary celebration on July 27 at the Fiesta Pavilion of Manila Hotel, PNoy bashed De Castro for a comment made sometime last October. And even if he didn’t name drop, the clues he gave in his speech all pointed to the veteran news anchor.

Kris said in one of her tweets that she believes majority of Filipinos feel PNoy is doing a great job.

“PNoy is our president & I do believe the majority of our people feel he's doing a great job. Maybe he just like anybody else”

Kris is known for candid talks and no-holds-barred comments. This time, however, she seemed to be keeping careful attention to her words. She even said that she prayed before posting those messages on Twitter because she didn’t want to say the wrong thing.

“Prayed be4 I replied to make sure I don't tweet the wrong thing. My issues r so trivial in comparison to PNoy.”

ABS-CBN News Chief Ging Reyes has made known the network’s support on Noli De Castro regarding the issue through a statement released on July 30, 2012. It read:

Our journalists and anchors, including Noli de Castro, report the news as they see it. They enjoy editorial independence in their coverage, and in the way they tell stories. The credibility of our news organization rests on this, as well as other basic journalistic principles.

In instances in which our fairness or balance is questioned, we have internal mechanisms that address such complaints from viewers.

De Castro was seen pursing his lips towards the end of the July 30 edition of TV Patrol. It is on that part of the program when the three anchors (with Korina Sanchez and Ted Failon) candidly talk their minds about some of the issues they reported about for that day.

The anchor, who’s also the former vice president of the country, wouldn’t answer Korina when she asked for his comment regarding the issue. He just jokingly pursed his lips and wouldn’t comment even on other issues that involved the government.
