Tom Cruise death hoax trends on Twitter

Tom Cruise, who is the star of the upcoming science fiction film Oblivion, trended on Twitter on April 11, 2013 due to a death hoax which was started by the entertainment website mediafetcher.com.

According to the fake news, the 50-year-old actor died in a single car crash in Queensland, Australia, around 5:30 AM on Thursday.

The accident allegedly happened at the Ipswich-Willowbank connector highway, one of the known dangerous roads in Australia, while Tom was on vacation, and that authorities identified him through an ID found at the scene.

But then if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, the copyright says “This story is 100% fake!”

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise’s movie Oblivion, which also stars Morgan Freeman, will open in theaters July 10th. He is also set to star in another science fiction film titled All You Need Is Kill, which will be released in 2014.
