The president of the Philippine Movie Press Club, Fernan de Guzman, will reportedly call for a meeting regarding the issue of vote-buying at the recent Star Awards for Movies, which the club organizes.
@InqEnt: PMPC president Fernan de Guzman said he'll call for a meeting re: alleged vote-buying at the recent Star Awards for Movies. @alpolicarpio
Jobert Sucaldito, on Monday, a day after the awarding ceremony was held, took to Twitter to say that a voting member of the PMPC named Francis Simeon paid other voting members so that Vice Ganda will win Best Actor. The comedian, nominated for his quadruple role in Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy, was declared winner Sunday night.

Sucaldito said he, as a PMPC outsider, lobbied for Jorge Estregan who was nominated for the same category for the movie Boy Golden. He said he commissioned 22 out of 38 voting members.

He also said that he could lobby for a nominee because he's not a voting member, but Simeon could not because a voting member cannot campaign for a nominee.

PMPC, meanwhile, released a statement denying the allegations.
The Philippine Movie Press Club, Inc. (PMPC) is saddened by the unfortunate turn of events at the recently concluded 30th PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
Immediately after the awards ceremonies, a malicious allegation circulated in social media questioning the veracity of our Best Actor winner.
We strongly refute the said allegation. The voting members gave their utmost trust and confidence to the winners in their respective categories, thereby making the results final uncontestable and sacred.
For the past three decades of Star Awards for Movies, the PMPC has weathered the hardest obstacles and has remained undaunted.
There will be forces that will try to destroy the credibility and reputation of the Club, but the PMPC will remain committed to its objectives, and no amount of intimidation and coercion can shake its foundation.
The PMPC, its Board of Directors and Members, will always stand firm on their decision.
