Miss World 2013 Megan Young recently figured in an accident while visiting an orphanage in Port Au Prince in Haiti.
According to an article posted on the Miss World website, Megan and Julia Morley were at the second floor of the building on Thursday when the kids ran to Megan when they saw the beauty queen.
Megan recalled hearing a loud crack before the floor they were standing on collapsed. She then fell around 10 feet high through the floor, together with Morley and a number of kids.
Morley and a kid were injured. They were taken to the hospital where it was found out that the Miss World chairman suffered a significant fracture in her hip area. She was immediately brought to Miami for surgery.
Luckily, Megan only suffered minor bruises. She also said she was still standing on her feet after the fall, one hand holding her crown, the other holding up one of the decks.
“Nothing like that has really happened to me beffore. It was such a shock,” she told the staff of Miss World. “We had all fallen down, but I was still on my feet. I had the crown in one hand and the other hand instinctively holding up one of the decks in place with two people. There were lots of kids under the decks still and we just instinctively held on.”
She also said that the incident doesn’t refrain her from going back to Haiti to continue what they had started.
“My thoughts are with them at this time. It was a real eye opener and just shows how much work needs to be done in Haiti. I want to go back and continue with the work that we have started, and make sure nothing like this can happen again.”
Megan is also hoping that Morley and the injured kids gets well soon.
Currently, Megan is back in the U.S. with her family.
