Lea Salonga and Glee’s Darren Criss sang A Whole New World in a piano bar called Marie’s Crisis in the West Village, New York City.
In the video uploaded on YouTube by V Lirio, Darren plays the piano and sings the male parts joined by the group while Lea sings the female parts of the song she originally sang with Brad Kane.
It’s funny to hear a constant “sshh” from those watching when Lea was singing. Like they want to hear her crystal clear voice without any other noise.
In another video taken the same night, Lea is introduced by Darren as “Princess Jasmine herself, the amazing Lea Salonga” before she sings On My Own from Les Miserables. She sang the Eponine song during the 10th anniversary concert of the musical. She was then cast as Fantine in its 25th anniversary concert.
The piano bar, Marie’s Crisis, was described in the YouTube video description as “a haven for musical theater enthusiasts (aka a piano bar). People come here and sing in harmony. And by "harmony" I meant, vocal parts (SATB). Off book. Sometimes in costume. But sans lighting cues and Sennheiser.”
