Eva Noblezada got the role of Kim in the upcoming West End revival of the musical Miss Saigon. The role was played by Lea Salonga in the original West End production, as well as in Broadway.
The news was confirmed by Cameron Mackintosh himself to dailymail.co.uk.
Nobleza, 17, is a native of Charlotte, NC. And we thought the role of Kim would be given to an auditionee from the Philippines.
We can still be proud, though, because the newcomer is half Filipino. She was discovered by casting director Tara Rubin at the 2013 Jimmy Awards in New York. She’s the niece of Annette Calud, Lea’s understudy in the Broadway production.
Noblezada attends the NorthWest School of the Arts in Charlotte. She will reportedly be doing only 4 shows a week so she can still keep up with school.
Meanwhile, our very own Rachelle Ann Go gets the role of Gigi which was played by Isay Alvarez in the original West End production.
Noblezada and Go will join other confirmed cast members that include Jon Jon Briones as the Engineer, Alistair Brammer as Chris, Hugh Maynard as John, and Tamsin Carroll as Ellen.
The Miss Saigon revival will be staged at the Prince Edward Theatre beginning May 2014, in time for the musical’s 25th anniversary.
