Korina Sanchez suspended after the Anderson Cooper incident?

ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez hasn’t been seen on the evening news TV Patrol since Thursday, and according to rumors, she was suspended by the management for wrongly accusing CNN reporter Anderson Cooper of something he did not say.

Reports say Korina went to Leyte on Thursday to report about the aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda on that part. She didn’t appear on the evening news, though, and was instead temporarily replaced by Bernadette Sembrano.

Before that, on Wednesday, Anderson reported from Tacloban where there were many evacuees still waiting for relief goods after five days of being hit by the super typhoon. He described the situation, and even interviewed a woman who had to cover her dead husband and children with leaves and torn clothes while waiting for help that hasn’t reached that part yet.

The report irked Korina and in her early morning radio program, she said, “Itong si Anderson Cooper, sabi wala daw government presence sa Tacloban. Mukhang hindi niya alam ang sinasabi niya.” (This Anderson Cooper, he said there is no government presence in Tacloban. It seems he doesn’t know what he’s saying.)

Korina’s words irked netizens. According to some, she doesn’t have the right to contradict the words of a reporter, much more from CNN, who was there in Tacloban, seeing first hand what the typhoon survivors are going through, while she’s just in the comforts of the air-conditioned studio doing her program.

Anderson, however, didn’t say anything of what Korina accused him of saying. He was asked about the accusation by Jake Tapper of CNN’s The Lead and he denied that he ever said there was no government presence in Tacloban. (Watch video here.)

Despite some reports that Korina took a one-week vacation, some netizens are saying that her absence is a punishment given by the network for her wrongful accusation of Anderson.

Aside from dzMM’s Rated Korina and ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol, Korina is also seen Sundays in the top-rating magazine show, Rated K.
