Filipino-American singer Jessica Sanchez was picked to sing both the national anthems of the two boxers, Pinoy boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and USA's Brandon Rios, before their fight on November 24, 2013, at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau, China.
The American Idol runner-up first sang the American national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, which made the crowd wild, perhaps more on the singer's vocal abilities than because they support Rios as the live audience reportedly consisted of 70% Filipinos.
As expected in an audience dominated by Pinoys, there was a loud roar as Jessica sang Lupang Hinirang in an almost perfect Tagalog pronunciation.
In an earlier interview, she said she sought the help of her maternal grandmother to teach her the national anthem so she could deliver it perfectly.
