Angustia, which stars Alex Medina, has been given an “X” rating by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
The Kristian Sendon Cordero movie is one of the entries under the festival’s Currents category. It was supposed to premiere on Tuesday at Robinsons Galleria, but due to the “X” classification its premiere got moved to Wednesday.
The indie film is about a Spanish friar who, in the process of converting the indigenous group Agtas into Catholicism, fell in love with one of them.
A movie is given an “X” rating because of its gratuitous sex and/or violence, and it cannot have a public exhibition.
But on his Facebook account, Cinema One channel head and festival director, Ronald Arguelles, said the movie is now being reclassified and will surely be shown before the festival ends.
“ANGUSTIA will not premiere tonight at Robinsons Galleria because of its initial X rating from MTRCB. It will be replaced by BENDOR at 7:30 pm. Angustia will still be shown in the festival after its reclassification,” Arguelles posted.
One of the cast members, Maria Isabel Lopez, on the other hand, confirmed, also through Facebook, that Angustia will premiere on Wednesday, Nov. 13:
“[Angustia] will have its premiere tomorrow Wed 7pm at the same venue Robinsons Galleria cinema8. MTRCB X rating as the reason. My director is 'sanitizing' the film and re editing scenes appropriate to the Catholic Church and the Movie Tv Review & Classification Board,” she posted on Tuesday.
Cinema One Originals 2013 will run until November 19th at Robinsons Galleria, Glorietta, and Trinoma cinemas. 5 films are competing under Cinema One Plus category, while 10, including Angustia, are included in the Currents category.
