Victor Basa willing to do more gay roles

Victor Basa admitted that he auditioned for the lead part of Vincent in the hit primetime series My Husband’s Lover. And although he did not get the role, the creative team found another role for him, that of Vincent’s ex-boyfriend, David.

“I auditioned for the role of Vincent but I think they were looking for a different attack on the character,” Victor told pep.ph. “Baka… maybe yung look or something.”

Dubbed as bekiserye (beki being the Tagalog slang for gay man), the series always trends on Twitter and Victor receives a lot of messages that he sometimes find it hard to keep up with replying.

The Kapuso series has really done wonders, specifically for the popularity of its actors. For one, Tom Rodriguez, who got the role of Vincent, has become a household name. He also has at least two movie projects coming.

Rodjun Cruz is also getting the spotlight and he is not just Rayver’s brother anymore.

Victor, meanwhile, is overwhelmed with the fans of the series who would come up to him and say, “Thank you for portraying us with dignity!”

He also revealed that an uncle of his in Amsterdam is gay and is married to another man. That uncle e-mailed him and to say he’s glad that Victor accepted the role.

But would he be accepting more gay roles in the future?

“Yes, I would!” he told pep. “Maybe sometime after ng San Pedro Calungsod, kasi baka magka-conflict. But yes, yes.”

The movie San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir came before My Husband’s Lover. He plays the role of a priest, Padre Francisco Solano, in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2013 entry. It wouldn’t be such a good thing if he plays a priest in one film and a gay man in the other at the same time. That said, MMFF happens in December, while rumor has it that MHL ends in October.

But would he go as far as doing nude scenes and kissing another male actor in a project?

“I dunno, I’m not sure, hindi ko pa alam, e, hindi ko pa alam,” was his honest answer. “We’ll cross the bridge when we get there. But iyon nga, as an actor, the more you can do, more opportunities come your way.”
