It may still be raining hard causing floods in different areas in Luzon, but it’s not the reason why there are no classes on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
Aug. 21 is a special non-working holiday, commemorating the anniversary of the 1983 assassination of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. which led to the downfall of Ferdinand Marcos.
His death sparked the People Power Revolution which put his wife, Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, to power.
Both Ninoy and Cory are treated as heroes of democracy.
Their political legacy is now being continued by their only son, the now president of the Philippines, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
They’re youngest daughter, Philippine showbiz’s Queen of All Media, is also said to be running for public office in the 2016 elections.
