The delayed telecast of Miss World Philippines 2013 on GMA-7 last Sunday drew flak from televiewers who stayed up late just to watch the beauty pageant.
Midway through the show, the network loaded the commercial gap with teasers of almost all of their shows, keeping the viewers waiting for so long. Some teasers were even repeated while netizens were already fuming mad as evident in their Twitter posts.
It was past 1:00 AM by then and while everyone already knew who won courtesy of social media, people still wanted to see how the pageant went, especially in the question and answer portion.
And while we thought it was done on purpose by the Kapuso Network, Arnold Vegrafria, who co-produced the show, told Abante Tonite that there had been a technical problem at the pageant site reason why they couldn’t send the feed to GMA-7.
Understandably enough, it was raining hard Sunday night and a lot of LGUs have even announced suspension of classes in their respective areas for the following day.
The Tropical Storm Maring, which in fact is still bringing hard rains all over Luzon as I write this post, was actually the one to blame for the commercial overload.
“Wala na sa control namin ang nangyari,” Arnold said, as quoted by the tabloid. “Ang ginawa na lang namin, itinakbo na lang sa GMA ang mga tape para maihabol. ‘Yung nag-motor naman, umiwas pa sa ibang mga daan dahil baha, kaya na-late talaga. Ayaw man namin ang nangyaring ‘yon, out of our control na.”
According to Arnold, they had to bring the physical tapes to GMA-7, but it was still delayed because of the flood brought about by, again, Tropical Storm Maring.
Technical glitches really happens, but they could have at least thought of some back-up plans had something like that transpires.
Anyway, after that long commercial gap, the telecast went fast, with very few TV ads during the gaps. Megan Young was crowned Miss World Philippines 2013 and will be representing the Philippines in the international pageant this September 28 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
