JM De Guzman is not a vagrant, stressed his father who recently withdrew the actor from starring in San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir due to health reasons.
Ronniel De Guzman, JM’s father, told columnist Ricky Lo that the rumors saying JM was seen wandering around asking for transportation money were completely not true.
“JM is not dirt poor,” said Mr. De Guzman. “As a father, I am hurt by those untrue stories. Like any father, I love my son.”
He also said that JM was not the breadwinner of their family and his earnings from showbiz are his own. Aside from that, he has savings and even recently bought a car so it is really a lie that the Angelito: Batang Ama lead actor would beg for money to pay for public transport.
“Star Magic is taking care of his earnings as it does with those of other contract stars. Ten percent of what JM was earning from his shows, gigs and mall tours have been set aside as his savings at the BDO branch in ABS-CBN and he cannot withdraw from it without the consent of Mr. M. (Johnny Manahan),” the father said.
While being completely discreet about what health condition his son is currently suffering from, the older De Guzman promised that JM would be well by December and he himself would tell the whole story.
“He’s somewhere, not yet stable, but getting better. A few more months and he will be okay. Maybe by December, he will be recovered. He will be a better man when he emerges and he himself will tell the whole true story,” he said.
Talks say JM has been under depression brought about by his breakup with actress Jessy Mendiola. The actor has allegedly resorted to substance abuse and is now in a rehab.
Kapuso actor Rocco Nacino replaced JM as the lead actor in San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir.
