Miss USA Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012 on December 19 (20th in Manila) at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas Nevada.
She topped 88 other beautiful contestants from around the world. She was crowned by Leila Lopes of Angola who was last year’s title holder.
Our very own Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon placed 1st runner up. She impressed the judges with her confidence especially during the final question and answer where she seemed not nervous at all.
2nd runner-up went to Miss Venezuela Irene Sofía Esser Quintero, 3rd runner-up was Miss Australia Renae Ayris, and 4th runner-up was Miss Brazil Gabriela Markus.
Part of the Top 10 were Russia, France, Hungary, South Africa and Mexico, while Top 16 also included Turkey, Peru, Poland, Croatia, Kosovo and India.
Best in National Costume went to Miss China Ji Dan Xu. Top 10 in national costume included Mexico, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Nicaragua, British Virgin Islands, Panama, Peru and Indonesia.
Other special awards also included Miss Photogenic which went to Miss Kosovo Diana Avdiu, and Miss Congeniality which was awarded to Miss Guatemala Laura Godoy.
Judges during the coronation night included Brad Goreski, Claudia Jordan, Diego Boneta, Kerri Walsh Jennings, Lisa Vanderpump, Masaharu Morimoto, Nigel Barker, Pablo Sandoval, Scott Disick and Ximena Navarrete.
