UAAP back-to-back MVP Nico Salva negatively hit the headlines last night for tweeting negatively about the Philippine Azkals vs Singapore Lions football match, which the Azkals failed to win.
Salva posted on his Twitter account @nickobesalva: “Finally the boring football game on aktv is over. Now can you show the PBA game already?”
He almost instantly got several hate tweets for allegedly being unsupportive and insensitive to what the national football team must be feeling during that moment of loss. Losing that game meant failing to advance to the AFF Suzuki Cup finals.
Some tweets called Salva mean and inconsiderate to the athletes just because it’s not his sport.
Salva immediately deleted his controversial Twitter post, and explained that he supports the national football team. He just found it boring because he’s not really a football fan.
“Chill. I do support our national teams. Not just a fan of football and i wanna watch the pba game. Relaxxxxxxx lang kayo”
“to those who read & reacted to my tweet last night, I AM FOR our nat.teams. football just doesnt interest me.it dsnt mean i am not for them-“
“-to be clear. I ddnt say anything about our team. I was talking about the sport in GENERAL. it dsnt interest me so that's it. Its my opinion”
Despite the bashing, however, there were some who sympathized with Salva, just like his girlfriend Karla Aguas. She posted on her Twitter account @karlaaguas: “People can tweet whatever the hell they want. It's THEIR account. You can't tell me there's a sport that you don't find "boring." RELAX.”
A very supportive girlfriend, no?
Anyway, I’m sure that this incident has taught the basketball player a lesson or two about being a little more sensitive on what he posts on Twitter, and all social media platforms in general.
