Twenty-one days before Christmas, three male students of the Far Eastern University were shot by still unidentified gunmen Tuesday night, December 4, near the school campus. One of them has survived but unfortunately, the two others have passed away.
Jerald Martin Ramos, Paolo Nepomuceno and Adrian Joseph “AJ” Santiago were shot in front of PhilTrust Bank’s Morayta branch, located almost across the street from the FEU R. Papa Gym. The students were rushed to the UST Hospital but only AJ managed to survive.
Jerald, 21, and Paolo, 17, died while being treated at the hospital. It was doubly hard for the family and friends of Jerald because it was the night of his 21st birthday.
Jerald, Paolo and AJ were all members of the Green Bisons, the official cheer drummers of FEU. Reports said the three have just left the school campus and on their way to the FEU Gym located at R. Papa Street when the shooting happened.
Jerald, who’s taking up Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, is a Sangguniang Kabataan chairman in Binondo, so despite the fraternity war that’s being looked at by the authorities as primary motive for the killing, it could also be political.
A call for justice has been immediately posted at the Green Bisons Facebook page, also asking FEU students to wear black shirts as a tribute to Jerald and Paolo.
FEU has been involved in a similar controversy last October, when a female UST student was stabbed inside the campus by a group of female FEU students.
Let’s just hope that the next big headline involving FEU is not as dark as this.
