Did Pacquiao lose for not doing his rituals?

During his December 8 fight where he lost to Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez via technical knock out (TKO), a lot of fans noticed the absence of rosary that Pacquiao used to wear around his neck while he prayed, kneeling in one corner before the fight.

But could it really be the removal of some of his rituals that brought bad luck to the Filipino boxer?

His mother Dionesia Pacquiao was interviewed by dzMM where she said that she has already accepted her son’s defeat.

Mommy D, as she is fondly called, was known to lock herself up inside her prayer room before Pacman’s fights. And while she still did her own ritual before the Dec. 8 fight, her son seemed to have discarded his.

“Sa aking side, gusto ko, huwag nyang iwan ang sign of the cross,” the mother told dzMM. “'Yun ang nakayaman sa kanya noon.”

Pacquiao’s now being a born-again Christian was no secret. The change from Catholic to born-again paved the way for him to discard his vices like gambling. But whether his leaving his Catholic faith really brought bad luck to his boxing career or it was just a coincidence, no one can really tell.
