Joshua Ledet received a standing ovation from all three judges for his performance of the song If You Don’t Know Me By Now on American Idol 11 Songs from the ‘80s Week.
The song was originally done by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes in 1972 but was recorded live by Patti Labelle and was released as part of her album Patti in 1985. In 1989, Simply Red also covered the single. So that makes it a legit ‘80s song.
Joshua sang with a choir which made the performance more churchy.
All three judges were all praises, with Randy saying that the performance was so god he wanted to stand up from the beginning up to the end. Jennifer called it a powerhouse performance, while Steven said it was “just perfect.”
