Pinoy Congressman wants a Disneyland theme park in the Philippines

Carmelo Lazatin, a Filipino congressman, has reportedly written Robert Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, to convince him that to invest in the Philippines by building a theme park in Clark.

According to the letter, the Clark Freeport Zone boasts of a 4,400-hectare main zone and 27,600-hectare subzone, ideal for a new Disneyland.

Lazatin also cited that Clark Freeport Zone offers tax-free privileges to developers, and aside from that, Clark has the best hotels in its roster as well as a world-class international airport that is expected to serve at least 1.6-million passengers this year.

“The airport will be making it easier for tourists to enjoy the amenities and entertainment Disneyland is famous for without the hassles of long travels,” he said.

He also boasted of the annual average of 4 million tourists the Philippines gets plus the population of more than 90 million which will make a Disneyland theme park in the country “a major income generating site” for the company.

There are already three Disneyland theme parks in Asia located in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo.

A fourth one being in the Philippines is a good thing to hope for as it will definitely boost the country’s tourism. But, of course, there are those who bash the idea saying that we shouldn’t be thinking about building a Disneyland when 30% of the country’s population live below the poverty line.
