Miss Ecuador Olga Alava was crowned Miss Earth 2011 in the pageant held last night, December 3, 2011, at the UP Theater in Diliman, Quezon City.
The event was overshadowed by the football match of LA Galaxy and Philippine Azkals but it was well attended by pageant enthusiasts nonetheless.
1st runner-up (Miss Earth-Air) went to Miss Brazil Driely Bennettone, 2nd runner-up (Miss Earth- Water) was Miss Philippines Athena Mae Imperial, and 3rd runner-up (Miss Earth-Fire) was Miss Venezuela Caroline Medina.
Other contestants who were able to make it to the Top 8 were misses Bosnia and Herzegovina, Crimea, Mexico and Zimbabwe.
Top 16 also included misses Taiwan, Japan, Paraguay, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Thailand and Ukraine.
Special awards were given out to Miss Taiwan Cherry Liu (Miss Photogenic), Miss Mexico Casandra Becerra (Best in Gown), Miss Czech Republic Sarka Cojocarova,(Best in Swimsuit), Miss South Africa Dominique Mann (Best in Talent), Miss Japan Tomoko Maeda (Best in National Costume) and Miss Pakistan Sanober Hussain (Miss Friendship).
