The first movie poster and trailer of the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has just been released giving us a glimpse of Middle Earth before the story of Lord of the Rings started. The movie is set for release on December 14, 2012.
Director Peter Jackson has video blogged about the making of the movie back in July. A few days after that, photos of the seven Middle Earth dwarves made us wish it was December 2012 already. Now, few days short of a year before we get the chance to see the movie, a trailer was released to tell us what to expect in the upcoming movie based on the novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first part of Jackson's adaptation of the Tolkien masterpiece. It starts with the old Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm) writing a letter to his nephew Frodo (Elijah Wood), one of the main characters of the movie. The scene then cuts into a young Bilbo (Martin Freeman) being invited by Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to an adventure.
Shot in the picturesque New Zealand, the movie also stars Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, Luke Evans as Bard, Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug/Necromancer, Andy Serkis as Gollum, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Stephen Fry as Master of Laketown, Christopher Lee as Saruman, Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield among others.
