Filipino travel photographer George Tapan won one of the top prizes in a National Geographic photo contest with this shot:
Taken in Onuk Islan, Palawan, the photo bested about 20,000 entries from 130 countries.
It was George's first time to join the National Geographic Photo Contest. And what's more to be proud about his win was that this was the first time the Philippines won in this competition that is considered as the most prestigious annual international photo contest.
Prestigious as it is, winners were judged by National Geographic magazine photographers who are respected in their fields – Tim Laman, Peter Essick and Amy Toensing. They based the judging on creativity and photographic quality. And, of course, Photoshop was not allowed.
