American jazz singer Patti Austin performed in The Voice Of The Philippines during the live show on Sunday, September 8. She’s in the Philippines for a series of shows, the last of which happens tonight at the SMX Convention Center in Davao.
The music icon performed with Broadway diva, Lea Salonga, with the non-competing Voice PH artists doing the back-up as a chorus.
Lea started it off with one of Patti’s most-celebrated songs, If I Believe, and once again, she showed us why she is renowned worldwide. She then introduced the foreign singer who went on stage singing In My Life. The birit parts were done by Lea, though, and she got cheers from the live audience every time.
One thing about Patti’s guesting was that she seemed so accommodating, joking around during the little interview with host Toni Gonzaga after their performance and she looked so down-to-earth.
Meanwhile, when Toni asked Lea if it was the first time she sang with Patti, Lea answered, “This is old hat for me.” She then joked that her fellow coaches, specifically the Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap, were not the only ones with connections.
Lea and Patti performed together during a series of US concerts back in 2010 so they basically know each other pretty well. Patti even commented that Lea is her favorite singer. Other than herself, that is.
