Janice Javier sang Aretha Franklin’s Chain Of Fools during the 4th live show of The Voice Of The Philippines on Sunday, September 15.
Her rendition got a score of 65% from her coach, apl.de.ap, but a low 39.98% from the public votes. Her total score of 104.98 got her through to the next round.
Before giving his score, though, the Black Eyed Peas member (who is also legally blind) struggled with his cue cards where the scores of Janice and Jessica Reynoso were written. Coach Lea Salonga, who was seated beside him, even had to help him find the right card.
Many were wondering why apl still had to write it down. Is 65% and 35% (which he gave Jessica) that hard to remember? Or were the scores just given to him to announce?
A lot of netizens also thought he gave a very high score of 65% to Janice because he already knew how low Janice got in the public voting and she needed that high a score in order to win the round. Compared to Janice’s public votes of 39.98%, Jessica got a high 60.02% for her rendition of the OPM hit Ikaw.
Public voting (through text and online) are done during the commercial gaps after the team’s performances.
Do the judges already know the standing of their artists in the public voting before they give out their scores?
