Malabon Mayor Oreta dies at 73

Canuto “Tito” Oreta, mayor of Malabon City, has passed away on Monday.

The 73-year-old mayor, who has been battling lung cancer since 2007, died of multiple organ failure around 10:00 AM of September 3, 2012 at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City.

Oreta started his political career as a barangay chairman, for which he was recognized as Outstanding Barangay Captain in the North Sector of Metropolitan Manila in 1994.

Oreta is a product of the Mapua Institute of Technology. He was considered as the Builder Mayor of the Twenty First Century Malabon and was credited for the building of New Malabon City Sports Complex and the new 11-storey Government Center.

He was survived by his wife and their five children.
