Jessica Sanchez shrugged off criticisms about her nationality as brought about by a series of messages Courtney Blooding, Charice’s manager, posted on Twitter.
Blooding recently questioned the support Filipinos are giving the American Idol 11 runner-up, when she is an American, doesn’t have a Filipino passport and doesn’t speak Tagalog.
The 17-year-old Filipino-Mexican powerhouse, however, seemed just cool about it during her presscon for Bench, where she even said that she wants to go back to the country to further immerse herself in the culture.
“I wanna break it in for Filipinos and Mexicans and put us on the map,” Jessica told ANC.
Jessica’s mom who hails from Bataan, meanwhile, defended her daughter against Blooding’s tweets. “She’s half-Filipino, half-Mexican but you know she’s closer to my family than she is with dad’s family and she’s growing up in more of Filipino culture. It’s unfortunate that it’s negative but you know it’s like it’s awesome that it’s Charice. She’s amazing and Jessica thinks she’s amazing. That girl’s voice is just phenomenal.”
Despite the controversy, however, Jessica is still open for a collaboration with Charice.

@rebornification isn't a Filipino passport kind of a big indication of citizenship and a lack of one a big indication of no citizenship?
