Fox officially announces “American Idol 12” line-up of judges

Fox has officially announced on Sunday morning the line-up of judges for the twelfth season of American Idol.

American Idol

As reported last week, Randy Jackson was retained as a judge. He will be joined by new ones including Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

Randy, who has been a judge of the reality competition since its first season, was reported to be shifting into a mentoring role. But since talks between the producers and the supposed new fourth judge Enrique Iglesias seemed not to work out, Randy was pulled back to his judge’s seat.

Mariah’s contract was reportedly about $17-million, Nicki’s was close to $12-million, while Keith will be earning somewhere between $3 to $5-million.

That makes me wonder how much Randy is paid.

Fox was optimistic that the (almost) new panel will make the show more interesting for the season 12. Mike Darnell, the network’s President of Alternative Entertainment, said in a statement:

“With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith and our incomparable host Ryan, we’ve put together one of the most exciting judging panels around.”

I wonder who the television will enjoy watching more – Mariah and Nicki in American Idol, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato in The X Factor USA, or Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine in The Voice.
