Jedward Represents Ireland at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest

Jedward, the twin act composed of John and Edward Grimes, is representing Ireland at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf (Germany).

Jedward first appeared on The X Factor's 6th series in 2009. They placed 6th in the talent contest and their popularity began to grow ever since.

Their first single was Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) which was released on February 1, 2010. Before it was released, though, they performed it with the original Ice Ice Baby rapper, Vanilla Ice. Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) topped the Irish Singles Chart and reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.

They were chosen representatives of Ireland in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest when they topped the national selection on The Late Late Show last February 11th with their entry, Lipstick.

The Eurovision Song Contest is a 54-year-old television program which has been broadcast every year since 1956. It is an international song contest where the show is transmitted simultaneously in all the participating countries with their respective public broadcasters.

It began in 1956. It was a very ambitious project back in the day as satellite television did not exist yet at that time.

Eventually, the competition has been broadcast not only across Europe, but also in the USA, Australia, Canada, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Korea, and New Zealand even if these countries do not participate at all.

The 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the Fortuna Düsseldorf Arena (Germany). The first semi-final round will be on May 10th, second semi-final round on May 12th, followed by the grand finals on May 14th.
