Marian Rivera's "Amaya" is Most Expensive GMA Soap Opera To Date

Director Mac Alejandre talks about the making of Amaya in this video from GMA News TV.

Amaya is the biggest and most expensive opera produced by GMA-7. Warships are even said to be made just for this epic series that also marks the comeback of Marian Rivera on television's primetime scene. Her last primetime series Endless Love, the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama Autumn in My Heart. Also directed by Mac Alejandre, Endless Love aired its last episode on October 15, 2010.

Amaya is an epic historical fiction set on the pre-colonial Central Visayas. And because they wanted to be so accurate, script preparation of the series took almost a year. It included consultations with historians from the University of the Philippines who helped them with the details big and small including the manner of sword handling and even how people from that period walk and run.

Marian Rivera plays the title role of a tribal princess turned warrior. His leading men in the series includes the model Mikael Daez and the comebacking Kapuso hunk, Sid Lucero.

Sid, though, says that he still has to prepare himself physically for the role. He still needs to go to the gym and watch his diet before shooting for his part begins.

Gardo Versoza, one of the actors who plays a key role in Amaya, says he underwent a month of strict diet and physical training to achieve the warrior-look that is needed in his role.

Other actors who play warrior in this epic series are Mon Confiado, AJ Dee, and Survivor Philippines runner-up Rob Sy.
