TV5 and Willie Revillame himself apologized to the public for their March 12 episode featuring the snake dancing kid, Jan-Jan. The kid and his parents were Willie's guests on his show Willing Willie last night.
Jojo, the father, says that Jan-Jan has been through and won different contests in school and even in SM performing the snake dance to the tune of Careless Whisper, the song popularized by the Hayden Kho-Katrina Halili video scandal. It's also interesting to note that Hayden danced the same snake dance on parts of those video.
The father goes on to say that it's his son's choice to perform such, and that his son doesn't see anything wrong with that kind of dance. We wonder what their roles as parents are. The kid is so young he needs to be taught what is proper and what is not.
But whatever explanation they say about the issue, it still goes back to the fact that "the show tends to cash in on the plight of the poor." And as the DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman stated further in her letter to TV5, "There are other ways of helping the poor without having to degrade their dignity and earn money out of it."
