Ara Arida flies to Russia for Miss Universe 2013, tells critics: “I know I can deliver”

Ariella ‘Ara’ Arida, 24, left for Moscow, Russia on Monday for the Miss Universe 2013 beauty pageant where she will be competing for the crown against 86 other candidates from around the globe.

The pressure could be harder for 5’8” beauty queen than our previous representatives. For one, the Philippines has already won two crowns this year. Her Bb. Pilipinas 2013 batch mate Mutya Datul won the Miss Supranational crown last month, which was followed by Megan Young winning the country’s first-ever Miss World crown in late September.

Should Ara win, it will be our third Miss Universe title after Gloria Diaz (1969) and Margie Moran (1973). Filipino pageant fans are wishing our representative will get the crown this year as the Philippines had consistently been in the Top 5 for the past 3 years, and in better ranking each succeeding year.

Venus Raj was 4th runner-up in 2010, Shamcey Supsup 3rd runner-up in 2011, and Janine Tugonon 1st runner-up in 2012.

Meanwhile, Ara has already received her share of criticisms since she won the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe crown, mostly because of her communication skills. She admitted she’s not as fluent in English as compared to other Filipina beauty queens but she promised that she will do her best to win our third Miss Universe title.

Others say she should use an interpreter to better express her thoughts, but she said she knows she can deliver even without one.

“I don’t mind using translator,” she told ABS-CBN News. “Pero pagdating ko do’n, I know I can do it. I know I can deliver.”

To help boost Ara’s chances in the pageant, Pinoys can actually help by voting for her at the Miss Universe website (www.missuniverse.com).

The pageant will be held November 9. It will be aired live via satellite by ABS-CBN on the morning of Nov. 10, Philippine time.

Janine Tugonon has already confirmed that she will be an online correspondent of the pageant. The Miss Universe 2012 1st runner-up is now living in the US where she studies film and acting.

PBB Teen Edition 4 Audition at MOA on January 6 & 13

Aside from the London leg, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Season 4 is going to hold auditions at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City on January 6 and 13, 2012. To qualify, you must be 13-17 years old.
