Freddie Aguilar and his relationship with a 16-year-old girl have been getting quite a lot of reaction from people, especially on the internet.
Some say he could face legal charges for dating a minor, while others just can’t seem to accept that a girl that young would fall in love with a 60-year-old man.
ABS-CBN News was able to talk to the folk singer’s 16-year-old girlfriend. In the interview, which aired Friday night on TV Patrol, the girl confessed that she really loves Freddie.
“Age doesn’t matter talaga. Mahal ko s’ya, e,” she said, adding that she doesn’t care about Freddie’s past.
She and Freddie first met in an election campaign in Oriental Mindoro. The folk singer eventually courted her through text messaging. They have been in a relationship for 5 months now and he calls her “babe.”
“Nung pumunta ako dito sa Maynila nag-stay ako sa bahay n’ya, mga 12 days ako do’n then pag-uwi ko sa ‘min, do’n ko naramdaman na love na pala ‘yon? Pagdating ko sa ‘min hindi ako makatulog, laging naiisip ko s’ya. Tapos eto na, sabi ko sa nanay ko, ‘Ma, uuwi na ‘ko sa ‘min.’ Sabi ng nanay ko, ‘Eto ‘yung bahay mo sa’n ka uuwi?’ Sabi ko, ‘Kay Freddie.’ Hindi ko alam e, basta mahal ko na s’ya,” narrated Freddie’s girlfriend.
To those who don’t understand her, she said they would be able to relate to her when they fall in love.
“Pag na-in love kayo, maiintindihan n’yo rin ako. Ako nandito na ako sa stage na 16 pa lang ako pero alam ko sa sarili kong matured na ‘yung puso ko para magmahal,” she said.
Their relationship has the blessings of the girl’s parents and it is also accepted by the family of the singer. Being a high school graduate, the 16-year-old wants to take up Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) in Manila. She also dreams of becoming a singer.
She plans on marrying Freddie when she turns 18.
