The final six of The X Factor Philippines are not just battling for the title of being the first ever winner of the competition, they are also fighting personal battles that could very well be a hindrance to achieving their dreams.
From the Boys Category mentored by Martin Nievera, Jeric Medina has been battling insecurities resulting from being overweight. He grew up with low self-esteem and has since made it a point to lose weight. Through diet and exercise, he has by now lost more than 70 pounds already and with all the support he’s been getting (he has not been in the bottom group even once), he’s gaining that much-needed confidence to become a professional singer.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Maturan, also from the Boys Category, has always wanted a complete family. He has had three step fathers in his life, one of whom brought them to live in Denmark at some point.
Kedebon Colim of the Boys and Allen Jane Sta. Maria of the Girls Category, on the other hand, are both fighting poverty. Allen would even join singing contests to support her studies and be able to buy stuff girls her age wants. She never won, though. If ever, becoming the X Factor winner would be her first.
KZ Tandingan, also from the Charice Pempengco-mentored Girls Category, had throat problems sometime ago which resulted in not being able to belt out high notes like she used to. Good thing she found and became comfortable with another singing style which is fast becoming her trademark.
Last but not the least, the lone contestant from the Groups Category of Gary Valenciano, Daddy’s Home is struggling with time. All of them are above 31 years old and they have much more limited time to achieve their dreams of making it in the music industry than their X Factor competitors. To add to that, their priorities somehow become a conflict because all of them already have their own families.
Who among the six will make it to the grand finals? Or looking at a nearer time frame, who will be leaving on Sunday and won’t make it to the Final 5?
