Typhoon BUTCHOY Update (5 AM, June 17)

No typhoon signals were raised but Typhoon Butchoy is enhancing the Southwest Monsoon.

For safety reasons, fishermen and those who are going to travel by sea are advised to let the storm pass before venturing out into the waters.

Not even safe so safe for mountaineers across Luzon and Visayas.

Here’s the PAGASA bulletin as of 5 AM of June 17, 2012.

Synopsis:
Typhoon Butchoy was located at 450 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near center and gustiness of up to 195 kph. It is forecast to move north northwest at 20 kph. Southwest monsoon affecting Luzon and Visayas.

Forecast:
Luzon and Visayas will have occasional rains. Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over northern Luzon and coming from the southwest over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.
