Davao Oriental was rocked by a magnitude-5.9 earthquake on Friday morning, March June 15, 2012.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded the earthquake at 9:14 AM. The epicenter was traced 145 km south east of Mati. It was tectonic in origin and has a depth of 64 km.
Although no damages were expected, the public was warned of aftershocks.
It was felt at:
- Intensity IV – General Santos City
- Intensity III – Davao City; Mati, Davao Oriental; Digos City, Davao del Sur
- Intensity II – Tagum City; Carmen, Davao del Norte
