Kathryn Joosten passes away at 72

Kathryn Joosten succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 72. She passed away in Los Angeles last Saturday, June 2, 2012.

Kathryn was known for her role in Desperate Housewives as Karen McCluskey, who, quite coincidentally, has passed away weeks ago in the story. Her stint as Karen won her two Emmys for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

The actress was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2001 and had a long battle with the disease. She also became a lung cancer advocate in the process.

Kathryn Joosten’s family has released a statement through the actress’ representative, Nadine Jolson. It says, "The family of Kathryn Joosten, two-time Emmy winner, longtime Governor of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, lung cancer advocate, and so much more, regrets to announce that Kathryn succumbed to her 11-year battle with lung cancer today, June 2, 2012, surrounded by love and humor til the end. Thanks to everyone for their love and support. We are laughing through our tears. We love you, Kathy, thanks for everything."
