Pinoy boxer Karlo Maquinto has passed away on February 3, 2012, 10:17 AM, after almost a week of being in comatose. He was 21.
Maquinto fell unconscious after his boxing match last Saturday with flyweight Mark Joseph Costa held at the Recom Gym in Coloocan City. He was decked twice during the first round but was able to fight till the end. The fight resulted in a majority draw.
His manager Anson Tiu Co said Maquinto was in perfect condition before the fight and passed all of the necessary tests. Throughout the fight, his trainers kept asking him if he was okay and he always answered yes.
Maquinto was immediately rushed to the Far Eastern University Hospital. When his mother arrived from Iloilo, he was already in comatose. He still shed a tear, though, when his mother started talking to him and crying. But that was the last reaction he showed. He fell in a deeper coma after that.
