Angel Locsin will don Darna’s costume once again as confirmed by Malou N. Santos, managing director of Star Cinema, the film production arm of ABS-CBN.
The news came out Sunday morning in Manila Bulletin, where an interview with the executive was published.

SCB: Sino ang gaganap na Darna?
MNS: Si Angel (Locsin).
ABS-CBN has already acquired the rights to remake Darna, as well as a number of Mars Ravelo titles that used to belong to GMA-7. Immediately after the network got the exclusive rights, the guessing game arose as to who will play the role.
Angel already did the role in GMA-7’s TV adaptation of the classic Pinoy superhero story years ago when she was still a Kapuso. Now that she is already in the Kapamilya Network, she will be playing the role again but its different this time. It will be on the big screen.
The story of Darna’s past in the movie is already done, as shared by Santos in the same interview.
“We’re already done with the story of her past,” she said. “We’re already brainstorming. We’re targeting next year for filming. So tuloy-tuloy na ‘yun.”
The upcoming Darna movie will also feature big special effects.
“When we bought the Mars Ravelo stories, gusto namin isa-pelikula ang Darna kung sino so Darna sa panahon ngayon. Definitely, the effects will be different from the past Darna movies. Kasi if you will not showcase the different effects, sasabihin, ano ang binigay na bago? Kaya pinag-aaralan kung ano ‘yung ibibigay na bago,” Santos shared.
