Angel Locsin played the iconic role of "Darna" on television when she was still with GMA-7. Now that the rights for the Mars Ravelo classic graphic novel is with ABS-CBN, she was set to star in the movie version of the superheroine project.

On Monday, however, Star Cinema has released a statement on social media saying Angel will not be playing Darna anymore due to health constraints.
"It is with deep regret that we announce that ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and Angel Locsin have mutually agreed that Angel will no longer do the 'Darna' movie due to health reasons," said the statement released by Kane Errol Choa, head of Integrated Corporate Communications.
The statement said further that Angel "underwent various rigorous training regimens for two years" to prepare for the role but it "led her to developing a disc bulge in her spine" which now restricts her from doing stunts needed for the role.
"And so while we have envisioned her to do the iconic Filipino heroine, Angel's health and safety are both our primary concern."
Fans of the actress, meanwhile, can still look forward to Angel's movie with Vilma Santos and Xian Lim as her role in the said project doesn't require her to do strenuous physical activities.
