The second Live Show of The Voice Of The Philippines was held on Sunday, September 1, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila.
Just like last week, four more contestants went home at the end of the show.
First team to perform was from Coach Bamboo MaƱalac. Angelique Alcantara did her version of Join The Club’s Nobela and it was a little unchallenging for her, as commented by Coach Sarah Geronimo. Paolo Onesa did James Morrison’s You Give Me Something and it brought out the best in his rich vocals. A crooner, indeed, according to his coach. Isa Fabregas sang the popular You’ve Got A Friend and according to Bamboo, she was able to connect to the audience.
Team Sarah Geronimo was next to perform. Yuki Ito sang Carpenters’ A Song For You and his coach liked his performance, even saying that he exceeded her expectations. Klarisse de Guzman was next with Madcon’s Beggin’. Coach Bamboo said that she’s a pro, and Sarah thanked her for not holding back and for unleashing the superstar in her. Maki Ricafort showed the power of his voice with Charlie Wilson’s Without You. His coach admitted that her heart cried while watching him perform.
Coach Apl.de.ap’s team was third to perform. Penelope Matanguihan did John Legend’s Ordinary People. Coach Lea said her performance was perfection, and coach Apl was so happy with her performance that he gave her a bow. Tristhan Perfecto sang Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man and despite that “something” in his throat, he was able to give the song justice. Bamboo commented that he felt a disconnection during the start of his performance but described the rest of it as excellent. Apl, meanwhile, said Tristhan did so well and he was so proud. Last from Team Apl was Janice Javier. She did R Kelly’s I Believe I Can Fly, bringing the house down and getting a standing ovation from all four judges. Sarah said it was perfect, and Coach Apl said she showed the whole world her talent.
Team Lea was the last to take the stage. Diday Garcellano did Adele’s Rumor Has It and Coach Lea noticed that she seemed nervous. Kimpoy Mainit sang Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah and Lea said he did everything they had talked about plus something else. Mitoy Yonting was the last to perform. He sang Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now and the song fit him to a T. The live audience actually cheered so loud even by just the mention of his name when Toni Gonzaga introduced him. Perhaps it was because they knew the performance would be fun. He even joked afterwards that he’s worried the audience might not have load anymore to vote for him because he was the last.
