Former beauty queen Maita Gomez dead at 64

Miss Philippines-World 1967 Maita Gomez died in her sleep on Thursday, July 12.

The 64-year-old beauty queen was found dead by her son in their Quezon City home.

Maita’s son said he was trying to wake her up from an afternoon nap at around 2 PM but found that she has already passed away. She is survived by her four children.

Maita Gomez was a high fashion model before she represented the country for the 1967 Miss World pageant. She was also famous for joining the communist group to fight Ferdinand Marcos.

Her remains lie in state at Funeraria Paz at the Manila Memorial Park.

May her soul rest in peace.
