Angelo Castro Jr. dies at 67

Angelo Castro Jr., veteran broadcast journalist and anchor of ANC’s The World Tonight, has succumbed to lung cancer on April 5, 2012. He was 67.

He died at St. Luke’s Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

Angelo was a theater, television and movie actor in his younger days. He was even nominated for FAMAS Best Supporting Actor for his role in Kumander Alibasbas in the ‘80s. He eventually ventured into news and became ABS-CBN’s news manager when the network reopened in 1986. He then created TV Patrol but never once demanded to be recognized as the show’s creator.

In 2000, he was made ABS-CBN’s Senior Vice President for News and Current Affairs but eventually left the position. He, however, continued to anchor The World Tonight in ANC, ABS-CBN’s news channel.

Angelo was survived by wife June Keithly, their son Diego and daughters Gab and Angel.
