The nominees for the 84th Academy Awards (2012) were announced yesterday, January 24, 2012, by Jennifer Lawrence and the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) Tom Sherak at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
Most of the recent Golden Globe winners are nominated at the Oscars this year. And since the Academy Awards doesn't separate drama from comedy, most of them are going against each other.
The Descendants and The Artist, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams, as well as George Clooney and Jean Dujardin are vying for the same categories at the Oscars when they were all winners at the Golden Globes for either drama or comedy/musical.
The Best Foreign Language Film category (in which Eugene Domingo's Ang Babae sa Septic Tank didn't make the shortlist of) has five nominees: Bullhead (Belgium), Monsieur Lazhar (Canada), A Separation (Iran), Footnote (Israel) and In Darkness (Poland).
The 84th Oscars will be presented on February 26 at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center and will be televised live by ABC. It will be aired via satellite in the Philippines by ABS-CBN on the morning of February 27.
